Toni Samek at BCLA Conference (MLIS, Dual)

Please consider attending both of Toni Samek’s sessions (read below). The informal session will offer participants the opportunity to discuss/share opinions on recent issues impacting libraries and our profession. Session #2 with Dr. Samek is FREE (you don’t need to be a BCLA member or have paid for the conference). However, because space is limited, we ask that you kindly let us know if you’ll be coming.

Also, please consider subscribing to the Public Librarians Interest Group’s, (PLIG) email list as a way of networking and keeping up with public library and librarian happenings. Visit: http://www.bclibraries.ca/listservs/bcla/

PLIG invited Toni Samek to the BCLA conference and we are thrilled that she is coming!   You are invited to meet her in person!!!   You have two opportunities to do so:

1)      Toni’s conference session is on Saturday, May 11th, from 10:30 AM – 11:15 AM.  To read more about Toni’s conference session, go to S7 from this link:  http://bcla.libraries.coop/wp-uploads/2013/03/Session-Descriptions.pdf     NOTE:  To attend the conference session you will need to register for the conference.

2)      Meet-and-Greet Toni Samek, May 11th, from 12:30 – 1:30 pm (Room:  Westminster 2 – subject to change) Please RSVP by April 16th, (same as the Early Bird registration deadline), as room designation is dependent on our attendance numbers.   We will give you as much notice in advance as possible if there is a room change.

NOTE:  To attend this meeting you do NOT need to register for the conference.  However, BCLA has requested that if you plan ONLY to attend the 12:30 PM meeting, that you not wander about into other areas of the conference venue.  This has been a problem in the past and BCLA has expressly asked us to stress that attendance at your SIG meeting is free, but if you want to see anything else associated with the conference to please register.   Let’s set an example and abide by this request!

Remember also, that:

3)      Hotel reservations for the discounted group rate for the conference hotel ($145 per night plus taxes) are available until April 9th, 2013 and (subject to availability). Book now at: https://www.starwoodmeeting.com/StarGroupsWeb/booking/reservation?id=1301045545&key=F34C9

4)     The BCLA conference early bird registration deadline is April 16th, 2013
To register, visit: https://bclaconnect.ca/?page_id=154

The PLIG Annual General Meeting will not take place during the conference due to time constraints.  We want to give Toni as much time as possible meet-and-greet you.  We do ask, however, that you consider becoming either a Convenor or Co-Convenor for next year.  We will hand over the reins of power at the AGM.   We hope to hold the AGM before this summer!

If you have any questions about any of the above, please email either one of us:Jane Curry, jane.curry@vpl.ca, or Ana Rosa Blue anarosa.blue@worksafebc.com
