Here are some topics for consideration:

  • Vendor licensing
  • emerging technologies
  • MOOCs
  • Course materials delivery (ARES, Fair Dealing Guidelines, UBC product/service proposals, etc.)
  • Social Media
  • Media Issues (e.g. Streaming, use of images, music, etc.)
  • Mashups
  • copyright literacy

This is not an exhaustive list, and we are open to submissions on other copyright-related issues which may be of interest. Presentations may be of any length, and we will incorporate several presentations into one session if necessary.

Please send submission to copyrite@uvic.ca . The deadline is December 13th, 2013.

Please contact the UVic Copyright Office if you have any questions.

January Term Courses [All Students]

The January term course wait lists for all ARST and LIBR courses have now been emptied. If you wish to add courses for January you should check the Student Services Centre on a regular basis to see if any seats have opened in the relevant courses.  If seats are available you should register yourselves into the courses.

You can view registration numbers for specific courses here.

If you have decided not to take any January term courses in which you are already registered please go ahead and drop those courses.  This will open up seats for other students.

If you have questions about any courses talk to the instructor or to your academic adviser.

Reminder: Applicaiton for Travel Funding [MLIS/DUAL]

Dear Students,

SLAIS has made available travel funds for MLIS/DUAL Students to be allocated by the Chair of the MLIS Program. These funds are also available to Dual students attending an LIS or IS conference. The funds are extra to the travel funds that are currently listed on our Website.

Funds will be initially limited to students who are not receiving travel support from faculty research grants or other sources. Funds will be initially limited to students who are presenting papers or otherwise directly participating in a conference. This does not include “volunteering” at a conference. We have set a November 1 application deadline for conferences that have occurred before then. Students can submit their applications to Susie Stephenson at any point before November 1. Students who apply will have to have original receipts for any requested reimbursement by the November 15 deadline. Students will submit an application for any/all expenses they incurred attending a conference.

We will take a look at the applications and then decide how much, if any to allocate to the pre-December period.  We will also decide how much will be awarded to students who have applied for support. By setting a November 1st deadline we should be able to get funds to any students completing their degrees in December.

The remaining funds will be available for conferences taking place after November 15, 2013.
